What is a DGFT License?

The Director General of Foreign Trade issues restrictions, quotas, and conditions on imports under the FTDR Act. While most goods are freely importable, some categories face prohibitions or conditional restrictions requiring a DGFT license.

Import licenses typically have a validity of 24 months for capital goods and 18 months for raw materials, consumables, and spare parts. Both are renewable.
